The 2019-2020 athletic year open quite well for the Corsairs this week. The varsity girl’s tennis program not only started their season on Saturday, but they started their conference season as well. They opened with win over Marian Central 5-0, then beat Providence 3-2 in a non-conference match, and then closed out the beautiful Saturday with a 5-0 win over conference rival Marian Catholic. Up next is the next varsity Jacobs quad on Monday starting at 4:00.
The girls golf team open their season with a conference win over Nazareth and then placed third at the Libertyville Invite the next day. Maria Stephens led the team with a third-place finish at the invite. Up next is the Lake County Invite on Monday.
The boys golf team had a busy week with three matches this past week. They opened with matches against Libertyville and Vernon Hills and came up a couple strokes short of victory to both teams. Later in the week the golfers open the conference season with a victory on the road at Marian Central. They concluded their week participating in the Warren Invite and placed fifth against a highly competitive field. Mike Wattelet was a medalist with an 9th place finish. Up next is a conference match at Pine Meadow on Tuesday against conference opponent Notre Dame College Prep starting at 4:00.
This week the rest of the fall sports open their seasons. The girls’ volleyball program host Warren on Monday starting with the JV/FA at 5:00 and the varsity/Frosh B at 6:00.
Varsity boys’ soccer open their season on Tuesday at the Lake Forest Tournament with a 4:30 start at the Scouts west campus. The JV soccer team open up also on Tuesday hosting the Scouts for a 4:30 start on the varsity grass field. The sophomore and freshmen teams open their seasons on Wednesday at Loyola’s Glenview campus with a start time of 5:00.
Also, on Wednesday the boys’ and girls’ cross-country team open their season at the Antioch Quad up at Fox River Park. The girls’ race will begin at 4:45 and followed by the boys. Finally, the football program will open their season with the “the battle of 176”. The Wildcats of Libertyville will come to Baker Stadium for a 5:00 kick-off for the frosh/soph team followed by the varsity kickoff at 7:30pm.
